What is
A.S.E. [Adolescents Striving for Excellence]?
A.S.E., an OBey Foundation Program,
is a nonprofit youth development program. Our mission is to
provide youth and young adults, ages 10-23, their parents
and families with the necessary skills, means, knowledge and
motivation to become great leaders, positive role models and
active participants in their communities
Ase is a Yoruba word meaning Power
from Nigeria, West Africa. This word is used as
fortification to bring power into whatever is spoken.
Because we are talking about empowering the youth, [our
future] A.S.E is the most effective way to bring about
change. A.S.E is designed to better equip our participants
for the future through Life Skills Training, Rites of
Passage Programs and Enrichment Programs. Through these
modules, participants acquire the necessary tools to become
well rounded and experienced young adults.
Hands-on activities and workshops with
interactive learning methods stimulate participant’s
interest and maintain focus. We use the effective learn,
apply and reflect method. Participants learn skills through
activities and workshops, apply them through role play,
practice, every day life situations and assignments.
They also have the
opportunity to
reflect on what they’ve learned through final projects
and/or presentations. A.S.E’s staff is composed of several
professional artists and instructors varying with 5 – 30
years of experience in their profession.
OBey Foundation launched the
A.S.E Program in June 2005. A.S.E. offers multiple services
such as life skills training, enrichment programs and rites
of passage programs. You can now experience our newly added
Family Education Programming. Since its opening, A.S.E has
completed over 25 contracts with over 8 agencies serving
over 400 youth.
