Brenu Village School
The Brenu Akyinim school
itself is in a state of dilapidation and in need of monies for repair.
This has had a direct and negative impact on the children's learning.
At the Basic Education
level, youth are not only challenged with the need for school supplies,
uniforms, lodging and meals, but tuition at the Senior Secondary School
level is much higher. This is the main contributing factor as to
why 65% of youth graduating Junior Secondary are not able to go on to
Senior Secondary.
Children should start
Kindergarten 1 at 3 years old and complete Junior Secondary 3 at the age
of 15, but it is quite common to find them finishing at the age of 19
and 20 years old. This is due in part to social and economic
factors - many have been orphaned at an early age and lack funding for
basic needs.
